The HEPA filter recognized by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has played an important role in filtering out infectious pathogenic bacteria and viruses and dangerous airborne particles. Mikropor HEPA Filters are designed for use in hospitals, medical facilities, laboratories, and commercial areas for the efficient screening and disposal of particulates and various pathogens.  The HEPA filter can eliminate at least 99.97% after particles in the air up to 0.3 micrometers (μm) in diameter. These size particles are the most difficult to filter and are therefore considered to be the most translucent particle size (MPPS). Larger or smaller particles are filtered with even higher efficiency. The HEPA filter consists of fiber layers arranged randomly. The main metrics that affect functions are fiber density and filter diameter and thickness. The air space between HEPA filter fibers is much greater than 0.3 μm. The general assumption is that HEPA filters act like filters where particles smaller than the biggest hole can pass are incorrect.
