Flange Adapters
A flange adapter is a pipe component that connects a pipe without a flanged end (plain end/spigot) to a pipe or equipment that uses a flange connection (valve, pump, or other fitting).
This adapter allows for more flexible pipe installation because it allows for connecting two different systems (plain pipe to flange).
Types of Flange Adapters
1. Mechanical Flange Adapter
- Can be installed directly with a bolt and nut system.
- Suitable for Ductile Iron (DI), PVC, HDPE, and Steel pipes.
2. HDPE Flange Adapter (Stub End + Loose Flange)
- Specifically for HDPE (polyethylene) pipes.
- Usually consists of a stub end (butt-fused or electrofused pipe end) and a loose flange (freely movable flange).
3. Steel Flange Adapter / Welded Type
- Flange welded to steel pipe.
- Strong enough to withstand high pressure.
Adapter Flange Standards
Adapter flanges follow flange drilling standards as needed, for example:
ASME/ANSI B16.5 → Class 150, 300, etc.
DIN/EN 1092-1 → PN10, PN16, PN25, etc.
JIS B2220 → 5K, 10K, 20K.
These standards specify the diameter, number of holes, and spacing between bolt holes.
